Author: Patricia Briggs
Series: Mercedes Thompson #8
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Release Date: March 4, 2014
The Overview: An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right. Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.
Hosted by Breaking the Spine
Nik’s Notes:
The Mercy Thompson series is one of my all time favorites! I always devour the books as soon as they come out then spend a full year pining for the next one (as is the case here). They just hit the spot, and I’m confident this one will be every bit as good as the ones before it. If you’ve never given urban fantasy a try, Patricia Briggs is the author to start with!
What book are you waiting on?
I’ll keep this series in mind when I’m in the mood for UF. Mercy has a lot of fans! Sounds like an exciting installment.

It’s gorgeous isn’t it? Aside from loving this series, I buy them all and hard cover because I love the art so much. I know how it is to get distracted in a series, LOL. If you ever pick it back up, you’re in for a treat!

I love this series, but what I don’t like are these covers. Mercy is not some goregous anglo model covered in tatoos (she has only one tatoo and that is the coyote paw on her stomach). She is half-indian, muscular, and average looking. What makes Mercy so beloved is that she is average but able to rise above her simple self to an extraordinary warrior and leader. These covers make her look silly and show no respect for the author’s extraordinary vision of her character’s story.

I have heard that from almost every single Mercy fan, and I couldn’t agree more! I do think the covers are gorgeous and attention-grabbing, but they don’t do anything to represent the true nature of the character. The Alpha and Omega ones seemed a bit more spot on I think.
