Stacking the Shelves – June 2014 Edition!

Stacking the shelves

Hosted by Tinga’s Reviews

In the last month’s STS I mentioned splurging on a ton of bargain hardcovers that wound up lost in transit. They turned up a week later (evidently one of my neighbors had been hanging on to them) and I was stoked! So much so that I shamelessly went and ordered even more. I added twenty-one books to my collection, most of which were hardcovers, and paid less than three dollars for most of them… How cool is that?

The only ARC acquired this month was actually a loan from Nikki over at There Were Books Involved. She saw my twitter post about how much I absolutely loved The Naturals and graciously offered to let me borrow the sequel (how awesome is that? Best blogging friend EVER!). Anyway, I’ve since read it and send it back and it is every bit as awesome-sauce as the first book – review to come.

In other news, I finally caved and bought another bookshelf for my YA/Middle Grade library. I’ve been needing it forever, but the company I bought my shelves from discontinued the cherry color about two years ago (hence my stalling). I finally decided I’d rather have a mismatched shelf than none at all. It looks a bit odd, but now all of my books have space on the shelf so I’m happy. :-)

In conclusion, it was great month over at The Obsessives Bookseller.

What books did you get this month? :-)

  1. Interesting to see the Marked books there! I love their pretty covers but have a bit of a love hate relationship with the series. I was obsessed with some of the earlier books but then felt the later ones went downhill. Maybe a case of too much of a good thing? But I’m still determined to compete the series. I think I’m up to Destined…

It’s great you managed to get so many bargain hardcovers, enjoy. :)

    • Me too! What’s funny is that I’d just decided I was going to buckle down and finish the series even though they kind of got lame (I think I made it to Awakened). The sale I found allowed me to pay $2.10 for each hardcover and I like their look too much to pass that up. Since the final one is coming out soon, we should do a mini read along to help each other finish the series. All of my local reading buddies gave up on it haha.

      • Ohh wow, seems the universe was telling you something. ;) Ohh right awesome, so we might be in around the same place. (I just checked my bookcase and Destined is the next one in the series for me) I definitely could use some emotion support to help me finish off this series, LOL. I would love that. :) I will keep an eye out for a post on Awakened. Are you thinking of picking it up anytime soon?

      • Totally! After inspecting the books I have discovered that I have read awakened already and am currently looking to hidden next – I’m only one book behind you. I almost feel like I should reread a few because I didn’t really retain much from the last few (although, I don’t think much happened, so maybe I really do remember it all haha). With that in mind, maybe we should try and read one within the next month or so. What do you think? I’m tempted to make it a thing and reread them all over the course of a year. The question is: are they worth it? The first 4 for sure. After that I’m not sure. It could be fun though. :)

      • But doesn’t Destined come between Awakened and Hidden? Gosh there’s so many books it’s confusing, haha.

Are you going to read the novellas? I bought one really cheap for £1 so I will definitely be reading that (Neferet’s Curse or something) but I’m not sure about the others, maybe if I can find them cheap… it might help remind me what the heck is going on, I can’t even remember where I left the story! :) Yes, I don’t have many memories of those books either but I do remember that barely ANYTHING happened and that they were quite difficult to get though.

Yeah, I’d definitely be up for reading one next month. I’ll check in with you again just before August to see if you’re still up for it. :) I admire your bravery to consider rereading them! To me, I kind of feel like they’ve had their time and rereading them might affect the previous enjoyment I got out of them, if that makes sense? But if you decide to reread them, I will cheer you the whole way, hehee.

      • Hahaha – yes, I believe you’re right. That means we are on the same book – the stars are aligned, Becky. Let’s reconvene near august like you said. I think this is going to be fun! We can help each other remember what we’ve forgotten, lol. I would like to read the novella eventually, but haven’t bought them yet…
It makes totally sense, and that’s why I’m waffling a bit… I’d feel guilty spending time rereading them when there are so many other series I enjoyed more (as a whole). Perhaps I’ll be satisfied with just finding out how it ends. :)

      • Wow, it really does seem like too much of a coincidence to pass up, doesn’t it? :) I think it’s going to be fun as well, two brains have got to be better than one in this instance.

Yes, I completely understand! For me it’s a pretty easy decision because I’m a slow reader, so I know if I decided to reread these it would take up so much time which I would prefer spending with other books, or even rereading some favourites like THG or HP. Although, if I had just picked up a load of super pretty hardback copies I may have felt differently. ;)

  2. Wow the amount of books you own is beautiful… I want a new bookshelf now!! Plus you make me feel less guilty about the amount of books I own!!!! So much for you buy 1 read 4 policy :p *tee hee* I know I understand! A book lover will always make space for more books. I can’t wait to read some of your reviews!! PS Nightshade read-a-long… Soon :) I’ll tweet you!

    • I am unreasonably proud of my library, but the real shame is how few of the books I’ve read (only about 30%). And for the record, in the read 4, buy 1 challenge agreement contract, section 2, paragraph 4, there’s a stipulation that allows for the purchase of additional books if they are classified as “killer deals” ;)
I can’t wait for nightshade! Starting it next…

      • Ha ha ha! I am exactly the same… I thought I was the only one! I have more unread books on my bookshelf than read books *hides* I actually think I need another shelf this one is soooo jampacked! I like your subsection stipulations. I just cashed in on a buy 3 get 1 free deal :) I bought the Fault in Our Stars, An Abundance of Katherines & a friend a biography of a South African swimmer – we split the costs :)
Soon… NightShade but then I plan on reading all 3 books back to back.. binge read!

      • Oooh!! Good haul! It always feels great to get rewarded for reading haha. It relates so well to why we have so many unread titles lying around. Serious book nerd problems lol. A binge read sounds like fun… I might be tempted haha.
