Coming Soon: All In by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

all inTitle: All In

Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Series: The Naturals #3

Genre: Teen Fiction

Release Date: November 3, 2015

The Overview: Three casinos. Three bodies. Three days…. After a string of brutal murders in Las Vegas, Cassie Hobbes and the Naturals are called in to investigate. But even with the team’s unique profiling talents, these murders seem baffling: unlike many serial killers, this one uses different methods every time. All of the victims were killed in public, yet the killer does not show up on any tape. And each victim has a string of numbers tattooed on their wrist. Hidden in the numbers is a code—and the closer the Naturals come to unraveling the mystery, the more perilous the case becomes. Meanwhile, Cassie is dealing with an equally dangerous and much more painful mystery. For the first time in years, there’s been a break in her mother’s case. As personal issues and tensions between the team mount, Cassie and the Naturals will be faced with impossible odds—and impossible choices.

The Naturals landed itself in the #1 spot as my favorite book of 2013. Killer Instinct was just as good, and I am simply beside myself with excitement for All In. I love the premise, I love the characters, I love the mystery, and I love the psychology behind everything. I’ve always been fascinated with shows like Criminal Minds and CSI but have always been too squeamish to actually watch them. The Naturals series satisfies all of my morbid fascinations, but does so with a charming YA flair! I strongly recommend the series – read it… READ IT NOW!

Perfected was my favorite YA read of 2014, and I loved it so much that I haven’t even been able to compose a review for it yet. Have you ever enjoyed something so much that no matter how much you gush about it in a review it won’t do it justice? That’s how I feel about Perfected – it was such an experience! The best comparison I can make is to DeStefano’s Chemical Garden Trilogy – a slightly dystopic society with a lot of messed up, somewhat dark practices; fascinating female protagonists who find themselves at the center of it all; and beautiful, poetic writing that never seems flowery or overdone. Perfected was one of the few books I will definitely be rereading, and I hope to say the same about Tarnished. December can’t come too soon!

Fiercely loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy’s shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels. Jim Butcher is tackling a fantasy?! Holy hell, sign me up! I am six books into his Dresden Files and am loving them, but something about the premise for this new series has me salivating a little bit… All I’m saying is, I may drop everything to pick this one up day comes out. I can’t see how it could NOT be good.

I realize I am probably the last person in the blogosphere to select Queen of Shadows for my WoW feature, but I’m kind of okay with that. Even though I enjoyed every book up to this point (and am intrigued where the story is headed – dragons!), it just has not been at the top of my radar compared to a handful of other titles coming out this fall that I’m DYING to read. Even so, I’ll probably pick this one up before the year is out, and look forward to listening to everyone around me geek out about it. If you haven’t read this series yet you are seriously behind the YA Fantasy times. ;)

If you can’t stand the wait until September 1st and need something to help hold you over, check out my Top Ten Books You Might Like If You Enjoyed Throne of Glass! list.

April 2015 Review Recap!

Review Recap

This has been one of the busiest months I’ve had in a long while! But at least I can say all of the busyness was of the fun variety. Unfortunately though, that means all of the playtime has severely cut into my reading time, but I still managed to get through some really good titles this month.

Books Read:

While I enjoyed all of these, my favorite has to be Angelfall by Susan Ee – I haven’t been so excited about a dystopian Dan Wells wrote Partials.

Books Reviewed:

The Novice by Taran Matharu – 2/5 stars
Series Review [so far] Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott – 3/5 stars

Invaded & Until Midnight by Melissa Landers – 4.5/5 stars
A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison – 5/5 stars

The Chemical Garden Trilogy by Lauren DeStefano – 4.5/5 stars!

And my favorite:

Havoc by Ann Aguirre

Havoc by Ann Aguirre

Havoc by Ann Aguirre – 5/5 stars!

I surpassed my normal reviewing quota (yeah right, like I actually stick to that anymore) by reviewing a whopping ten titles this month. Don’t be too impressed – all I did was figure out that I make my own rules for the blog and can review a whole trilogy at once if I want to (it’s liberating).

Waiting on Wednesday Features:

Huh, weird – no YA titles featured this month… Even so, I am absolutely thrilled for all three of these!

Top Ten Tuesday Features:

Top Twelve Authors Who Inspire the Aspiring Author in Me!

I miss being able to do the TTT with enthusiasm, but after participating for over two years, there’s not many lists I haven’t already created in one form or another… Still, when I do make one, I get really excited about it (see link above).

How was your month? Read anything amazing?!

There’s always nerves present when picking up a new series by an author you adore… Will it be as good? Will I still love the writing without all my favorite characters around? What happens if I don’t like it? But I have had so many profound reading experiences with Kim Harrison that I trust her implicitly to deliver another series that’s going to knock my socks off… especially if Peri Reed is even half as badass as Rachel Morgan. :-)
