It’s once again time for my favorite feature: Tackling the TBR! There’s nothing I love more than picking out which books to read next, and this slightly organized method of reading has really amped my enjoyment to the next level. Bring on the mantras!
Read the best books first.
&
Life is too short to read books you’re not enjoying.
However you put together your TBR for the next month, the goal is to reduce the amount of obligation in reading and increase the fun.
Here’s a look at how the system works:
1. Identify the titles that take top priority in your TBR.
2. Combine them all in your own Tackling the TBR post.
3. Throughout the month pick from that pile as the mood strikes you.
Here’s what mine looks like:
April 2019 TBR Tackler Shelf:
Priority Titles!!!
- Tiamat’s Wrath by James S.A. Corey
- Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs
- Guns of the Dawn by Adrian Tchaikovsky
- A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine
- Shadowblack by Sebastien de Castell
The Reserve…
- Blood of Tyrants by Naomi Novik
- Nyxia Uprising by Scott Reintgen
- Reckoning of the Fallen by R.A. Salvatore
- Beyond Varallan by S.L. Viehl
- Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
- Bitter Blood by Rachel Caine
- Holy Sister by Mark Lawrence
- WfH: Apprentice Needed by Obert Skye
- Living with the Dead by Kelley Armstrong
- Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe by Alex White
- Eye of the Labyrinth by Jennifer Fallon
- Before They are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie
- Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames
March’s experiment to focus on my super high priority titles only was a super success! I didn’t quite make it through all five books, but I enjoyed the process immensely! It gave me much-needed clarity for figuring out what to read next, and I especially loved how much pressure to read all the things it alleviated. This month many of the titles in my reserve list could’ve easily claimed a priority spot, so I’m in for some great reading if I can only manage to block out more time for it…
Have a great April!
Yay, The Expanse!
I only read the first book so far, but the second is waiting already 😊
I really enjoyed it – much more than I thought I would.
Hope it stays strong 🙏

Hi Niki!
I’m so glad you are enjoying reading again. I can understand when life gets crazy and you read because you have to or your library due dates are coming up.
Plus I like your “priorities” and then the “reserves” option. Might make finishing the priority list and then picking a tantalizing reserve exciting! Like a reward. Lol. I love book rewards.

Thank you! Yeah it has been a long while since I experienced a “spark” for reading. Everything has felt just kinda meh. Part of my problem was my focus on finishing out series that were just okay and not allowing myself to start new ones.
And omg you totally get me at every turn haha. The reward system built into this new priority thing is totally my #1 driving factor haha. You rock.
